1 Chronicles 7-10
In these chapters we find the conclusion of the genealogies provided in 1 Chronicles. The sons of the tribes of Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher are noted. It was rather interesting that while there was a lengthy list of sons for all the other tribes, the list of sons for Naphtali only totaled four persons.
Also of note is the genealogy of King Saul is provided in 1 Chronicles 8. We also find in 1 Chronicles 9 a list of individuals who settled in Jerusalem. Given that this city will soon become a focus and center of activity, this chapter lays the groundwork noting that the people of Israel were beginning to settle in that town.
I Chronicles 10 provides a recap of the death of King Saul when he killed himself on Mount Gilboa. A sad note is made in regards to King Saul, in particular as to why he died:
“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”
Thus enters the time and rule of King David.
